Membership
Membership in Carolina Mountains Credit Union is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Polk, or Transylvania counties, and their immediate family members regardless of where the family member lives.

Membership is also open to businesses in the abovementioned counties, and Select Employee Groups (SEGs) of the credit union. 

Membership is also open to anyone who is, or becomes, a member of the Center for Community Self-Help. As a member of Carolina Mountains Credit Union, you have access to all of the products and services offered by the credit union.

A $5 minimum deposit is required to become a member of Carolina Mountains Credit Union. Your credit union membership "share" deposit gives you access to all of the products and services offered by the credit union and makes you a member/owner with the right to vote at the annual meeting of Self-Help Credit Union.

Joining CMCU via the Center for Community Self-Help
To become a member of the Center for Community Self-Help you must pay a $20 membership fee to the Center for Community Self-Help. You also must pay $5 for your membership in the local credit union. Anyone joining the credit union through the Center for Community Self-Help must also fill out a separate Self-Help Credit Union application.

The Center for Community Self-Help is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to creating and protecting ownership and economic opportunity for people of color, women, rural residents, and low-wealth families and communities. Self-Help Credit Union is affiliated with the Center for Community Self-Help. Carolina Mountains Credit Union is a division of Self-Help Credit Union.
